Adult Literacy

The aim of the project is to empower people to read in the Bible about the Hope we have in Christ.

Illiteracy negatively impacts a person’s self-esteem and his or her ability to find a job.
It also makes the person dependant on other people and sometimes even a possible target for fraudsters.
This project must still 'get off the ground' – finding people willing to commit to attend all classes for a fixed period proves a more difficult task than expected.

Heaven on Earth Project

The vision of the project is to ultimately touch the lives of all South Africans through the education of early learners, through:

• School readiness programs
• Literacy
• Numeracy
• Training of Early Childhood Development (ECD) staff
• Love and care

The Heaven on Earth Program is currently assisting 852 learners between the ages 4 and 9 in three schools in the Helderberg area. We have also prepared a brand new education module for early learners and staff and we are currently planning the roll out of this “Train the trainer” program.

Mozambique DECA agricultural development project

The project has the vision to improve the quality of life of the poor farmers of the Milange region by increasing the yield of their crops, addressing the problem of food security. The project owns a 220 ha farm which is used as training ground to teach local farmers the fundamentals of conservation agriculture and to introduce new varieties of seeds that gives higher yields. Farmers are also trained at other sites by planting 10mx10m demonstration fields, practicing conservation agriculture and planting modern seeds.
The project also has a herd of cattle.

Mozambique Literacy Ministry

“So that they can read the Bible”

The VISION of the ministry is to empower communities so that they recognise and utilise their God-given talents and assets to participate in building God’s Kingdom, through community-owned schools.

This is accomplished by planting schools in the very remote and rural areas of North-Eastern Mozambique and empowering entrepreneurs & village communities to use their God-Given assets like soil, water, hands, feet and sound minds to sustain their own schools, by applying the “Foundations for Farming” methods.

Three different and unique financial models are applied to get every school financially independent and self-sufficient over a 3 year period.

The Bible and evangelism are integral parts of the ministry. Bible lessons, evangelism projects and outreach programs expose both children and adults to the Good News of Jesus Christ being Lord and Saviour of all.

Stewardship in Mozambique

Biblical stewardship is the way we as new people in Christ; manage our whole life and our possessions under the guidance of the Holy Spirit to the glory of God, to the benefit of the congregation and for the expansion of His Kingdom!

It implies that each and every steward, that is everyone who belongs to God, has a responsibility and a commission to manage and keep and promote everything that God has bestowed on us on earth.

The management of Gods possessions that He has entrusted to us is not a request; it is a commission and a fact! We do not choose to be managers of God’s resources, God has already entrusted his resources to us.

We try to promote this way of living and to learn the people how to manage and record the funds (bookkeeping) we receive to fulfil the work of the church and the expansion of God’s Kingdom in Mozambique.

Uyavula Reading and Writing Project

Uyavula (“we are opening”) value the power of reading and the effect this has on children’s academic performance and we actively promote reading, storytelling and writing with children.

At Macassar Primary School’s Foundation Phase (a total of twenty classes – Reception Year to grade 3) reading aloud sessions are done once a week during class time by the Uyavula volunteers.

Reading aloud not only develops speaking, listening and general language skills but also gives the children practice in thinking skills as well as a love for reading (and the added bonus of being valued by an adult).

Uyavula also runs a reading club on a weekly basis at the Macassar Primary School, as well as one for the children in Chris Nissen Park.

During 2016 we reached a total of about 800 children by the grace of God and with the assistance of 25 volunteers and much valued donors.
